A memoir on India's newest aviation minister.
Lets have a quick recap on the policies implemented by Indias newest aviation minister
In July 2024, Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu took over the high-profile department of civil aviation. Immediately after being sworn in (July 31st), he pushed for the repeal of the Indian Aircraft Act (1934) due to its outdated nature. He called for the replacement with a bill called the “Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak Bill” wherein three independent bodies would be set up to manage Indian aviation.
i) The DCGA: Mainly for performing regulatory functions and overseeing safety.
ii) Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS): Overseeing security
iii) Aircraft Accidents Investigation Bureau: Overseeing aircraft-related accidents.
Furthermore, Naidu has focused on strengthening airfare regulations to make flying more affordable and transparent for consumers. He wants to address concerns such as expensive and variable airfares, particularly during peak travel seasons. An example of this in specificity would include developing oversight on how airlines use algorithms to set dynamic pricing which would ensure fairness.
